A church sex scandal is the basis of The Dead Boy at the Valley’s Laurelgrove Theatre. The Dead Boy, a controversial drama by Joe Pintauro, is loosely based on the Covenant House scandal, which sent shock waves through the Catholic Church a decade ago. It looks with startling humanity at what was perceived to be a shocking subversion of power by a well-publicized priest whose tireless efforts had created a nationwide shelter network helping thousands of young runaways, teenaged prostitutes and addicts.
Jack Heller directs a cast headed by General Hospital star Stephen Nichols who plays Father Sheridan, a charismatic priest accused of sexual impropriety with a teenage boy in his charge.
Completing the high-profile ensemble cast of five are Lorry Goldman as Father Rosetti, Travis Michael Holder as the Cardinal, Cyril O’Reilly as Tony McGuire and Derek Sitter as The Young Priest and Will Draper. Scott Cheek is set designer and lightening is designed by Gregory Von Dare.
