HE HUNTS In highly mannered works like Georges Feydeau/s farce of thwarted adultery Monsieur Chasse!, there/s a fatal temptation to play artificial comedy artificially, resulting in a certain redundancy. Director David Schweizer succumbs to that temptation in Philip Littell’s translation, but mixes in enough visual elegance to keep things lively. As the central couple, Maxwell Caulfield and Valarie Pettiford are handsome and stylish, and Stephen Nichols adroitly sketches the frustrations of a determined but inept seducer.
Acting honors . . . go to Carol Kane, as a fallen aristocrat.
