Stephen Nichols in SoapdishSYNOPSIS

In the comedic farce Soapdish, the behind-the-scenes lives of several soap opera actors are just as melodramatic as what is on the screen. Sally Field stars as the star of a declining television show whose career is thrown into turmoil when her rival (Cathy Moriarty) tries to persuade the producer (Robert Downey Jr.) to write Field off the show. Downey attempts this by hiring her niece (Elizabeth Shue) and then her ex-boyfriend (Kevin Kline), who was formerly on the show, but was written out of the program 20 years earlier. Soon, the entire cast is beset with rivalries and love affairs, which are all more complicated and wacky than anything on the television show itself.

The LA Times interviewed Stephen and other soap opera stars to find out how Soapdish compared to real daytime drama.
